The 2024 WLA Prize laureates campus tour came to the Grand Neobay Cultural Arts Center on October 22nd.
At the scene, Professor Nathans discussed how the X chromosome in females gives them a different sense of sight. Professor Kleinberg showed how algorithms keep people's attention by knowing what people "should want" and what people "want now".
Then, the professors responded to the audience's questions patiently with enthusiasm and understanding. They thought the audience's questions were deeply in touch with the current field and gave people who are interested in their fields some advice.
“Good questions are the things that make a speaker happy. I have enjoyed both from the faculty and the students.
The questions that they asked, they're really thoughtful. I would say one piece of advice is to follow your personal vision. I think each person has their own talents and their own interests. And especially for students, they have to figure out what that is,” Professor Nathans said.
Professor Kleinberg said, “We have a lot of very powerful new techniques. They are emerging and computing. I think it's also important to think about using those techniques responsibly in ways that can benefit people.”
They felt that it was exquisite and that there were many opportunities in Minhang.
Professor Kleinberg said, “It's been exciting to hear about this new campus and the way in which potentially. It could represent a mechanism for new opportunities in the region.”
“They're beautiful and very impressive. I've enjoyed walking around and looking the parks and the buildings and also meeting new people,” Professor Nathans said.

現場，Jeremy Nathans教授討論了X染色體如何給女性一種不同的視覺感受。Jon Kleinberg教授展示了算法如何保持人們的注意力，通過知道人們“應該想要”什麼以及人們“現在想要”什麼。
隨後，教授們回答了觀衆的問題。他們帶着熱情和理解，耐心地進行解答。他們認爲觀衆提出的問題與當前的領域有着深刻的聯繫，並給了對自己領域感興趣的人們一些建議。
Nathans教授說：“好的提問可以讓演講者高興。我享受與老師和學生的互動交流。從他們的提問可以發現，他們很善於思考。我想對他們說一個建議，就是追隨你的個人願景。我想每個人都有自己的才能和自身的興趣愛好。特別是學生，他們需要想清楚這些。”
Kleinberg教授告訴記者，我們有很多非常強大的新技術。它們正在興起和進行信息處理中。他認爲同樣重要的是，通過有益於人們的方式，要負責任地使用這些技術。
兩位教授覺得這裡很美，閔行也有很多機會。
Kleinberg教授表示，瞭解到華東師大新校區以及它具有的潛力，這很令人興奮。它可能代表了一種機制，使這裡有很多新的機會。Nathans教授說：“閔行很美，令人印象深刻。我喜歡在閔行到處走走，看看公園和建築物，還可以結識新朋友。”
